Swift Transit: New Routes, New Hours, New Stops

The City of Swift Current, along with our transit service provider, The Saskatchewan Abilities Council, are happy to announce some exciting enhancements to Swift Transit which will begin on September 5, 2017.

High School Priority Service
Beginning September 5th, Swift Transit will be providing Swift Current Comprehensive High School students residing in the Central Zone of the City (above the Canadian Pacific Railway and below the TransCanada Highway) with a Priority Route Service before and after school. 

Enhanced Public Service
Swift Transit’s public transit service will see a secondary route added, known as the “BLUE LINE”.  The BLUE LINE will replace the call-to-book shuttle service for residents who reside outside of walking distance to the “RED LINE”.  This additional route will cover the east and west portions of the City and will meet up with the RED LINE (the current main route), at both the Swift Current Mall and the Downtown Hub for transferring.  

The new BLUE LINE includes 14 additional stops in Swift Current, while the existing RED LINE will see an extra stop added to its route at the Swift Current Comprehensive High School. 

Hours of Service
RED LINE – Monday to Saturday: 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
BLUE LINE – Monday to Friday: 8:40 AM to 6:00 PM (no service between 3:30 and 4:44 PM)
HIGH SCHOOL PRIORITY SERVICE – School Days: 7:30 AM to 8:40 AM & 3:30 PM to 4:44 PM

“The new two-route system and the additional transfer point at the Swift Current Mall will help riders make travel plans knowing exactly when and where their bus will arrive,” said Jolene Peters, the City’s Manager of Engineering Services. “We’re hopeful this updated service will attract more people to choose an environmentally friendly way of commuting and also provide existing riders with improved service in a more cost-effective manner.” 

The City recommends Transit users familiarize themselves with the new routes and schedules.
