Let’s Keep City Sidewalks Safe This Winter Season
With winter weather conditions now upon us, the City of Swift Current is seeking the public’s assistance to ensure that all sidewalks be maintained through the duration of the winter season.
City Bylaw requires residential property owners to clear sidewalks of snow, ice, dirt, debris or other materials from any sidewalk adjoining their properties within 24 hours of accumulation. Business owners are required to clear and maintain adjoining sidewalks continually during regular business hours, and within 24 hours of accumulation outside of business hours.
As a reminder, owners of rental properties are still responsible for ensuring the clearing of adjacent sidewalks and pathways of their rental property, regardless of who does the work.
In the event of infractions, the City of Swift Current will notify property owners. To help us respond faster to concerns of a bylaw infraction, please provide your compliant in writing by sending an e-mail to email@example.com, filling out a “Bylaw Inquiry Form” at www.swiftcurrent.ca, or attend City Hall in person to fill out a “Bylaw Complainant Statement”.
Section 65 of the Traffic Bylaw, found on Page 21, outlines the full snow removal requirements.
In the spirit of being a good neighbor and part of our Swift Current’s safe and caring community, please remember to reach out and assist others that may have difficulty in clearing their sidewalks.
The City would like to thank all property owners in advance for their cooperation.
