Sidewalk crossings (driveway crossings) make it much easier for vehicles to get on and off driveways by lowering the height of the curb.
The price to install a sidewalk crossing includes: removal of the existing sidewalk, and replacing it with a new sidewalk crossing. The city will ensure that the street is patched with asphalt, and that the back of the driveway is repaired using the previous material used (asphalt, concrete, or gravel).
The 2015 rate for the replacement of a sidewalk with a sidewalk crossing is $415.00/meter.
The 2015 rate for the installation of the sidewalk crossing with curb only is $300.00/meter.
These payments must be made before the work is done. They do not fall under local improvements and can not be placed on your taxes.
To arrange for the installation of a driveway crossing you need to:
- contact the Planning and Growth Development Department in early spring (March or April)
- fill out the attached Sidewalk Crossing Application Form and drop it off at City Hall
- give your name, address and phone number to the Engineering Technologist in charge of concrete work
- make the necessary arrangements with the Engineering Technologist to meet you at your home/business to collect measurements
