About Us

Swift Current is a dynamic city of approximately 18,500 people. It is the major population centre for southwest Saskatchewan. The City has become a great stop for tourists with the large volume of non-local traffic passing through on the Trans-Canada Highway. (visiting us? Jump here for City Hall Hours) 

As the largest center in the southwest region of Saskatchewan, Swift Current is proud to boast a vibrant downtown business core. The downtown also features the popular Market Square each Saturday from 10 am-3 pm from June until September. The City also features two large shopping malls, the Swift Current Mall and Wheatland Mall, with a variety of stores and businesses. Swift Current is home to many of the retails giants that exist in larger urban centres. There is a shopping experience for everyone!

Swift Current also offers excellent care for its residents.  The Cypress Regional Hospital, along with the various care centres and government social services, provides care for the City and region. Great care requires outstanding Emergency Services. Swift Current's Emergency Services includes policing by a municipal detachment of the RCMP, a local fire department, and ambulance services.  In addition, private practices offer professional assistance in medicine, dentistry, optometry, opthamology, accounting, law, etc.

Swift Current offers a variety of housing options. Affordable homes and apartments, to suit all tastes and budgets in safe neighbourhoods, are found throughout the City. Homes in Swift Current are within walking distances to parks, churches, playgrounds, schools, stores, and recreational facilities. People feel safe here, and they are able to enjoy the perks of a friendly small town with the convenience of a large city. Families can grow and prosper in Swift Current.

Swift Current has a tremendous education system. Chinook School Division and Holy Trinity Roman Catholic School Division provide exceptional elementary and secondary education. The City and outlying region also benefit from the training, secondary, and post-secondary education available at the Great Plains College.

Residents take great pride in the sports and recreation opportunities in our community. The City boasts an indoor aquatic centre, two fantastic 18-hole golf courses that offer exquisite fairways and greens, a multi-faceted Chinook Pathway that offers a beautiful walk or ride along the Swift Current creek, and a vast network of parks and recreational areas.  

Swift Current has become the cultural centre for the southwest. With various concerts, art shows, and festivals, filling the calendar in the City, there should be something to excite and entertain the whole family. The Art Gallery and the Allied Arts Council provide some of the great shows the City is privileged to host.

Frontier Days, held annually on the July 1st long weekend, allows southwest Saskatchewan to celebrate their heritage and have fun. This weekend offers something for everyone. The activities and events include the Canada Day Parade, Kiddie Parade, Midway, Rodeo, and various live acts.

Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre 
The Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre is a welcoming space in downtown Swift Current.  This centre provides programming and resources for newcomers to Southwest Saskatchewan. As a regional gateway, the Welcome Centre welcomes immigrants and refugees, and supports their transitions in Canada with services, initiatives, and activities that promote diversity, participation, and integration.
