Driveways & Sidewalk Crossings
Driveways with proper sidewalk crossings make it much easier for vehicles to get on and off driveways by lowering the height of the curb.
For information regarding the sidewalk crossing bylaw, please click here: Sidewalk Crossing Bylaw
The price to install a sidewalk crossing includes: removal of the existing sidewalk, and replacing it with a new sidewalk crossing. The city will ensure that the street is patched with asphalt, and that the back of the driveway is repaired using the previous material used (asphalt, concrete, or gravel).
Rates are set each year based on unit prices. Payment must be made before the work is done. Costs incurred do not fall under local improvements and cannot be placed on your taxes.
To arrange for the installation of a driveway crossing you need to:
- Contact the Engineering Services Department in early spring (March or April)
- Fill out the attached Sidewalk Crossing Application Form and email to eng@swiftcurrent.ca or drop it off at City Hall
- The Engineering Technologist will make necessary arrangements to collect measurements.
