Driveway Crossing Installation Standards
PURPOSE:
To ensure that during reconstruction of City curbs, gutters and sidewalks that all useable driveway crossings are replaced and that all new driveway crossings will have a useable driveway constructed within a reasonable time frame.
POLICY:
During a sidewalk replacement program a property owner can have a driveway crossing installed at no additional cost provided that a driveway is constructed within one (1) year of the driveway crossing installation.
If, after one (1) year a driveway has not been constructed, the City will remove the driveway crossing and replace it with standard curb, gutter, and sidewalk. The cost of the replacement will be charged to the property owner and, if not paid, will be charged against the taxes.
Upon application, the property owner must agree to undertake the improvement of their driveway to meet city standards which would be to use either asphalt, concrete or paving blocks as the hard surface methods allowed for driveways and parking areas in accordance to Zoning Bylaw No. 4 - 2003, Section 3.22.4 which stipulates that the hard surfaced driveway must connect to hard surfaced parking areas.
