Water Distribution
The Water Distribution and Waste Water Collection crew is responsible for:
- all water lines in the city
- all services to each property
- sanitary sewer
- watermains
- residential service lines
- fire hydrants
- 14 sewer lift stations that pump sewage to the wastewater treatment plant
- the operation, repair, and maintenance of the Rural Water Pipeline Distribution system to over 200 businesses and residents outside of the city limits
- boil water notifications
Because this crew is responsible for checking the services leading in to a property, issues with water lines are usually reported to them by the owner or plumber that has been hired to do any type of repair work. If the problems are associated with the curb cock, it will be repaired by the crew. Please refer to the Repair of Water Services Including Curb Cock Policy for further details.
Sanitary Sewer and Water Service Application FormsThe installation of half-services are the responsibility of the home owner or contractor. All materials are to be supplied by the plumber.
When the City of Swift Current receives a request for the installation of sewer and water lines anywhere in the City (residential or in-fill), other than in new subdivisions, all lead water service materials between the watermain and the new development must be replaced with new materials at the applicant's expense. When an Application Form is filled out, an applicant chooses between the installation of a single service, dual service, or other. After reviewing the application, the Department will provide a written quotation for the work to the applicant. The total fee must be paid in full prior to any work.
