The City of Swift Current regulates the licensing of cats and dogs in Swift Current to ensure public health, safety, and enjoyment of our community. All dogs and cats over 6 months in age must be licensed by February 28th of each year. All animals must wear their current license when off the property of the owner.

Responsibilities of Pet Owners
The owner of a dog and/or cat shall ensure that their animal is kept under control at all times. Dogs must be kept on a leash not exceeding two (2) metres when off of their private property. If the animal defecates on public or private property other than the property of the owner, the owner shall remove such defecation.

No person shall possess or harbour more than three (3) dogs over the age of 6 months and may not keep more than four (4) cats on their property.

Animal Licence Application:

  • Complete the appropriate dog or cat tag application form.
  • Include a cheque or money order for the application fee payable to the City of Swift Current. The licence fees are:
CATS
License fee $30.00 (before deductions)
Spay/Neuter deduction $10.00
Total cost after deductions $20.00

DOGS
License fee $48.00 (before deductions)
Dog Park fee $2.00 (Bylaw No. 14 – 2014)
Total $50.00 (before deductions)
Spay/Neuter deduction $13.00
Rabies Vaccination deduction $2.00
Total cost after deductions $35.00
