Honour Our Veterans Banner Program
HONOURING OUR VETERANS
The Honour Our Veterans Banner Program is an initiative of the Swift Current Museum to pay tribute to our local veterans and active service members. Similar to other successful banner programs already established across Canada, this program will be an ongoing legacy project. Through the displaying of the banners, we hope to engage the community in honouring and remembering local veterans through an initiative that will ensure continued recognition and respect throughout future generations.
THE BANNERS
Each banner will be in honour of a specific service person with a connection to Swift Current. It will include their name, era served, branch of service, photograph, and the name of the sponsor. The large, double-sided, full colour banners will be displayed on lamp posts in and surrounding Swift Current's Memorial Park leading up to Remembrance Day.
The Honour our Veterans Program will be funded through sponsorship of individual banners. The cost to sponsor a banner is $175.00. The banner will be displayed for three consecutive years. At the end of the three years the sponsor can keep the banner as a family keepsake. The first installation of banner displays in Memorial Park occurred in 2016.
HOW TO SPONSOR A BANNER
Application forms will be available for pick up at the Swift Current Museum, Swift Current City Hall, or by clicking here. Once completed, please bring the application form, along with a sponsorship cheque made payable to 'Swift Current Museum - Honour our Veterans', and a high resolution portrait style photograph of the service person in uniform to the Swift Current Museum. All hard copies will be returned. Digital photographs of 300 dpi or better can be emailed to museum@swiftcurrent.ca.
The deadline for submitting applications occurs in the late summer/early fall. New submissions will be accepted annually. This will be an ongoing project that will no doubt grow over the next few years as we honour all of our local veterans.
