HOW DO I REGISTER TO VOTE?

The City of Swift Current does not maintain a voters list. You will not receive a voter’s card in the mail. 

All eligible voters are required to make a declaration at the polls. In order to reduce your wait time at the polls, print and complete the Voter Registration Form ahead of time. 

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO VOTE?

An elector must vote in the municipality and school division in which they reside or must be the owner of assessable land situated within the municipality. 

A person can be registered to vote if he/she:

  • Is a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years of age on the day of the election;
  • Has resided in the City or on land now in the City for at least three (3) consecutive months immediately preceding the day of the election; or
  • Is the owner of assessable land situated in the City or of land now situated in the City for at least three (3) consecutive months immediately preceding the day of the election; and
  • Is a Saskatchewan resident for the past six (6) months immediately preceding the day of the election.

In the case of a school division, a person can be registered as a voter if he/she:

  • Is a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years of age on the day of the election;
  • Has resided in the school division or on land now in the school division for at least three (3) consecutive months immediately preceding the day of election; and
  • Has resided in Saskatchewan for at least six (6) months immediately preceding the day of the election. 

A person who is registered as a voter in a Public School Division is not qualified to be registered as a voter in any other School Division.

In the case of a Separate School Division, in addition to the requirement set out above, voters must be of the religious faith of the minority that established that separate school division.

WHERE CAN I VOTE?

1. ON ELECTION DAY  

Polls will be open from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm at three polls held at: 

  • Poll #1 – Trailview Alliance Church
  • Poll #2 – InnovationPlex
  • Poll #3 – Chinook Golf Course

TO VOTE PLEASE BRING YOUR DRIVERS LICENSE/IDENTIFICATION CARD

Swift Transit is offering FREE rides to the polls on Election Day!  Call 306-770-2263 to arrange a free ride. Pre-booking your ride is encouraged!


2. AT AN ADVANCE POLL, or SPECIAL POLL

Advance Polls are scheduled for November 1 – November 4 at the InnovationPlex:
Friday, November 1 from 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Saturday, November 2
from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Sunday, November 3
from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Monday, November 4
from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Special Polls will be established for the residents and/or those receiving care at the facilities listed below during the specified dates and times:

Willow Creek Manor - Tuesday, November 5 - 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Riverview Village Estates - Tuesday, November 5 - 11:30 AM - 3:30 PM
Cypress House - Wednesday, November 6 - 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM
The Meadows - Wednesday, November 6 - 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM
Pioneer Manor (PPIH) - Thursday, November 7 - 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM
The Bentley - Thursday, November 7 - 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Golden West Manor - Friday, November 8 - 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Heritage Towers - Friday, November 8 - 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Prairie View Lodge - Friday, November 8 - 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Cypress Regional Hospital - Wednesday, November 13 - 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Homebound or Mobile Polls will be conducted between November 1 to November 8, 2024.
Applicants will be advised of a specific date and time when two (2) election officials will attend their residence should they be unable to vote at a regular polling station. All applications are at the discretion of the Returning Officer.


3. BY MAIL-IN BALLOT

 

The Mail-in ballot option is available to ALL ELIGIBLE VOTERS, and the process has two important components that must be followed in this order:

1.) You must first MAKE A REQUEST (i.e. apply) to receive the mail-in ballot package.
2.) Once your information is reviewed, the mail-in ballot will then be sent to you in the last week of October, to mark your vote and return it. The ballot MUST be received before the close of polls, to be counted.   

Application forms requesting a mail in ballot package shall be received and reviewed by the Returning Officer. Eligible voters have the following options:
1.) Pick up a Mail-In Ballot Application Package at City Hall to complete and submit.
2.) Complete the fillable PDF application posted HERE, then save/print, and submit.
3.) Email election@swiftcurrent.ca with your mailing address to request that an application be sent to you. 

Completed applications may be submitted:

  • In-Person to the Returning Officer at City Hall – call (306) 778-2768.
  • By Mail: Returning Officer - City of Swift Current; Box 340; Swift Current SK S9H 3W1.
  • By Night Deposit Box - place in an envelope addressed to the Returning Officer and drop off anytime into the Night Deposit Box located on the west-side of City Hall at 177 1st Avenue NE (next to bench).
  • By Emailelection@swiftcurrent.ca.

Once your application is submitted and reviewed, eligible voters will then receive their mail-in ballot package in the mail in the last week of October. The ballot package is to subsequently be completed and returned prior to 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.

IMPORTANT DEADLINES:

4:00 p.m., November 4, 2024 – for applications requesting a mail-in ballot, that are submitted electronically or by mail.
4:00 p.m., November 12, 2024 – for applications requesting a mail-in ballot, that are made in person to the Returning Officer
8:00 p.m., November 13, 2024 – this is the deadline for return of voted ballots. BALLOTS MUST BE RECEIVED BEFORE CLOSE OF POLLS ON ELECTION DAY IN ORDER TO BE COUNTED.
